IFAT Africa will take place from July 05-07, 2023 for the 4th time already after the premier of the exhibition in 2015. The trade fair takes place every two years in Johannesburg, South Africa and is part of the IFAT Worldwide cluster. The emphasis of IFAT Africa is on water and sewage treatment, refuse disposal and recycling.

South Africa determined to modernize environmental infrastructure

Environmental issues have become a matter of public concern, since environmental conditions have repeatedly threatened Cape Town and other cities in this region in the past years. The south of the continent has been suffering for many years from a severe drought. South Africa, as are other affected neighboring countries, is determined to invest in water and waste water projects with an investment volume of 2.7 trillion Rand (over 180 billion CHF) to be carried out between now and 2035. Main projects include: making even greater use of surface water, desalinating seawater, reducing water losses and reusing waste water.

As the economy and population rate are rising the waste volume within the country is growing. The South African Department of Environmental Affairs has developed a National Waste Management Strategy to support the recycling of waste and an efficient use of resources. Therefore, instead of the previous strategy of waste disposal in landfills, South Africa is trying to find new solutions as waste separation, recycling, recycling of bio-waste, thermal recycling and treatment of special waste and E-waste.

It should be emphasized that South Africa is one of the leading industrial economies on the African continent. Wide-ranging water delivery and purification, solutions for the food and beverage industries, as well as laboratory technology, analysis, and other application areas are key issues in the future market of Africa.

The premier industry trade fairs "IFAT Africa" ans "analytica Lab Africa" will be co-located in 2023, to showcase new innovations in the areas of environmental technologies and analysis. Synergies from the colocation will create added value for exhibitors and visitors.
